*VIRTUAL* Hospice 101 – Everything You Need to Know About End-of-Life Care
July 15, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Hospice has been part of the medical system in the US since the mid 1970s, yet there is still so much misinformation and misunderstanding about hospice and its role in providing the best possible care at end of life.
Join us for this free online class to debunk the myths about hospice and have your questions answered. You will learn what hospice is, why you might want hospice care for yourself or a loved one, when to start thinking about moving to hospice, and how to request it if you no longer want aggressive treatments and tests in the hospital. You will also learn how to cover the costs of hospice care, which can often be obtained for free through your contributions to Medicare.
The class will be taught by two experienced hospice outreach nurses. There will be time allowed for questions and answers and resources provided, so you will walk away better informed on this compassionate choice for end-of-life care.
Instructors: Chris Ritzo, RN, is part of Mission Hospice’s outreach team and has been practicing on the Peninsula for 35 years, serving the community in which she grew up. Her passion is helping people understand the control they can have over the rest of their lives and improving the quality of that time, especially when the quantity of time may be limited.
Jenny Rhodes, RN, has a master’s degree in public health nursing. She has worked as a school nurse, an assistant professor at Samuel Merritt University, and now works with Mission Hospice’s Clinical Outreach program, supporting families, facilities, and patients navigate end of life issues and hospice care.
