Departures
Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Departures follows a young man who returns to his hometown after a failed career as a cellist and stumbles across work as a traditional Japanese ritual mortician. He is subjected to prejudice from those around him, including from his wife, because of strong social taboos against people who deal with death. But while working with families of the deceased, Daigo embarks on his own spiritual journey, as he finally experiences the joy and wonder of living.
Please note: The film is in Japanese with English subtitles. We will begin at 6:35pm sharp, as it is 131 minutes long.
